In 2016, Ingrid Jendrzejewski won second place in the UK’s National Flash Fiction micro competition with a title that had 53 words in it, and one word in the story itself. I have never forgotten it, mainly because you rarely come across such sharp comedy, but also because you rarely come across such audacity too. I have been in awe ever since… But why does it work so well? How did she do it?
